Histoire

Founded in 1062 by the Almoravids, Marrakech gave its name to Morocco. Capital of several dynasties, it was a commercial crossroads between sub-Saharan Africa and the Mediterranean. Its pink ramparts and palaces testify to its past grandeur.

Géographie

At the foot of the High Atlas, the region stretches from snowy peaks to the Agafay desert. The semi-arid climate is softened by ancestral irrigation systems (khettaras). The Haouz plain produces olives and citrus fruits.
