Documents & Requirements
Driver's License
French license is valid in Morocco for tourist stays under 1 year. International license recommended but not mandatory for Europeans.
Insurance
Third-party liability insurance is mandatory. Rentals generally include basic insurance. Check deductibles and opt for comprehensive coverage.

Traffic Rules
Zero tolerance for alcohol
Morocco applies zero tolerance for drinking and driving. Penalties are severe: immediate license suspension, heavy fines, even prison in case of accident.

Gas stations are numerous on main roads. In rural or desert areas, fill up as soon as possible. Payment usually cash, some stations accept cards.

Driving Tips
Watch for pedestrians
Pedestrians often cross unpredictably, especially in cities and villages. Stay alert!
Mountain roads
Atlas roads can be winding and narrow. Honk on curves and watch out for trucks.
Night driving
Avoid night driving off highways if possible: poor lighting, animals on road, vehicles without lights.
Road conditions
Highways are excellent. National roads are good. Watch for unpaved tracks in the south.
