Souss-Massa
Moroccan Riviera, Granary of the Kingdom
Agadir, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, is Morocco's premier seaside resort. The Souss-Massa region combines mass tourism, intensive agriculture, and authentic Berber traditions.
Histoire
The Souss was the cradle of Berber resistance and the Saadian dynasties. The 1960 earthquake razed Agadir, killing 15,000 people. The city was rebuilt with modern, safe urban planning.
Géographie
Between the Anti-Atlas and the Atlantic, the Souss valley is a vast irrigated agricultural plain. The semi-arid climate is tempered by the ocean, offering 300 days of sunshine per year and fine sandy beaches.
