Assignment to a public middle school follows the school map of your area of residence, based on the end-of-primary record. For private schools, enrolment is done directly with the institution, often with a review of the school record. Enquire from spring for the following school year.

The middle school cycle lasts three years and covers Arabic, French, mathematics, life and earth sciences, physics-chemistry, history-geography, Islamic education, plus English and physical education. Some schools offer international sections.

At the end of the third year, pupils sit a regional exam leading to the middle school certificate, which determines admission to high school (common core). The year's results and the exam determine which streams are accessible.
