On-duty pharmacies provide night and public holiday service on a rotating basis. The list is usually displayed in every pharmacy window and published by local newspapers and city websites. In an emergency, the nearest hospital can also direct you.

Most pharmacies open Monday to Friday, morning and afternoon, and Saturday morning. Hours vary by city and during Ramadan. On-duty pharmacies take over at night, on Sundays and on public holidays.

Many common medicines are available over the counter, but antibiotics, psychotropic drugs and chronic treatments require a medical prescription. The pharmacist can advise you on minor ailments and refer you to a doctor if needed.
